I was looking at the semantic shift for the word and found it originally meant to delay or hinder. Around the 19th century it started to be used in a clinical manner describing brain function. Around the 20th century it retained it’s definition and usage and became to be understood as a pejorative. In 2010 Obama signed Rosa’s Law mandating the term be dropped from educational, medical and labor. Instead the term intellectual disability was to be used. I’m technical
